The C-J reports that the HullabaLOU music festival, which was organized by Churchill Downs Entertainment and held at Churchill Downs, lost $5 million. According to the article “hot weather and declines in concert ticket sales nationally” are being blamed for the loss.
However, CD saw increased revenue during Kentucky Derby week.

I’m curious if most new music festivals (if not all) loose money in the first year or two.
Plus, as Jason points out, the lineup wasn’t astounding, and there is also the little issue of that Forecastle thing..

Here is Rick Howlett’s piece on it: http://www.wfpl.org/2010/08/05/evans-first-hullabalou-an-expensive-education/
They expected to lose money getting it off the ground, but they didn’t expect to lose that much.
