The Louisville Free Public Library has cancelled its fall book sale, but the Friends of the Library will hold another sale in the spring. Consuming Louisville is also sponsoring LFPL fundraisers.
Michelle at Consuming Louisville has another benefit for the Louisville Free Public Library, but this time it’s not a bake sale; it’s an internet meetup (technically a tweetup) at the Highlands Q’doba.
[The Highlands] Qdoba will be donating $1 from every burrito sold during the breakfast burrito tweetup to the Library Foundation.
[edit]
So this Friday morning come to the Bardstown Road Qdoba location (corner of Bardstown Road and Eastern Parkway) to enjoy some tasty, tasty breakfast burritos, socialize with cool internet people and support the library all at the same time.
With all these food-related library benefits, I think we’ll have to organize a LFPL 5k.
When you or your kids go back to school tomorrow, check the supplies. Between the pencils and Trapper Keeper, is there a library card?
The NPR Librarians blog As A Matter Of Fact points to the fact that September is Library Card Sign-Up month. In celebration, they’ve posted a clip of Milton Berle trying to check out a library book. Go check it out yourself. Then tomorrow you can go to the library and check out a book. The first floor of the main branch is open now.
Just be careful not to combine library card sign-up month with Kentucky’s new bourbon appreciation month.
Wednesday’s bake sale to benefit the Louisville Free Public Library raised a total of $911.
Michelle Jones organized the event and has a blog post about it. She dropped off the proceeds to the Library Foundation today. There were even a few additional donations that pushed the total over $1,000.
In related news, the main branch’s first floor is now open.
We talked about and we talked about, and it’ll be here Wednesday–Consuming Louisville’s bake sale to benefit the library.
It’s set for this coming Wednesday afternoon.
From Michelle Jones:
I’ll be setting up at DCE around 3:30PM and I’ll official declare the bake sale open at 4PM. I’m planning to be there until 8PM or I run out of baked goods, whichever comes first.
Michelle at Consuming Louisville has posted the tentative details of her bake sale to help the library recover from last week’s flood.
Here’s what I’m thinking: the bake sale runs from 5PM-8:30PM. Swing by for an after work snack or come by for dessert after dinner. Every penny made at the bake sale will be going to The Library Foundation. Ideally we’ll be selling both individual desserts (cookies, slices of cake and pie) as well as whole cakes, pies and breads…
It will be held at Derby City Espresso on Wednesday, August 26th. For more details and to find out how to make a cash donation to the LFPL, click here.

The Louisville Free Public Library’s main branch downtown will be closed for the rest of the week due to flood damage.
Louisville will only qualify for federal relief funds if officials can prove that the floods did at least $5.3 million in damage. In the meantime, Michelle at Consuming Louisville has started taking matters into her own hands by working on a relief plan for the Main Branch of the Free Public Library, which was severely damaged on Tuesday.
Consider this information phase one of Consuming Louisville’s Help the Library Project. I’m sure once they get a better assessment of all the damage they’ll have more needs for fundraising, hands on volunteer efforts and maybe some more online shopping needs.
So as soon as I get information on their additional needs I’ll roll out phase 2. For now though the best way we can all help the library is with a donation check sent to:
The Library Foundation
301 York Street
Louisville, KY 40203And also I’m thinking we need to throw a bake sale just because I love baking and the concept of bake sales. If I throw a Consuming Louisville bake sale to support the library will you participate?
Visit Consuming Louisville for more information about the possible bake sale. I can’t bake, but I can read and I’ll take any excuse I can find for pie.
