Among the dozens of caucuses in the U.S. House is the Small Brewers Caucus. The caucus was formed in 2007 “to gain a better understanding of all aspects of small brewing, from business and regulatory issues to the brewing process and history of the small brewing community.” Indiana Congressman Baron Hill (D-09) is the only local representative on the caucus.

I bring this up because NA Confidential (which is written in part by the New Albanian Brewing Company’s Roger Baylor) recently encouraged Hill to support legislation to lower the excise tax on small brewers. The legislation is currently in the Ways and Means Committee and has earned support from Congressman John Yarmuth.

The links above give more information on the bill. What are your thoughts? I think it’s interesting to see all these parts of the legislative sausage making process, even if you don’t drink beer with your sausage…or if you’re vegetarian…or on a diet.
