Before her speech at the National Quartet Convention, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin appeared at a fundraiser for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul. That event was closed to the press, but several reporters gathered outside in case Palin, Paul or anyone else decided to speak to the media.
